The Migration Research UnitThe Migration Research Unit (MRU) is based in the Department of Geography at University College London (UCL). Its purpose is to carry out high quality research, independently or in collaboration with others, designed to increase knowledge and understanding of international population migration issues. The following are the Unit's overarching research aims:
In fulfilling these aims, the Unit seeks to consolidate a national and international reputation for research excellence and to disseminate research findings in a way which ensures maximum benefit. The MRU was established in 1988. Extensive links have been developed with governmental organisations, academic institutions and other agencies both in the UK and overseas. Those commissioning research from the MRU have included the European Commission, the OECD, the Council of Europe, the UK Department for Education and Employment and the Home Office.
